In a slightly unsubtle precursor to something coming to EngageSportMode next week, today’s Friday Photo is the new Audi Sport TT Cup race car.
Acting as a replacement for the Volkswagen Scirocco R Cup, and set to be the main support race for the DTM, the new Audi Sport TT Cup becomes the first step on the rung for those wanting access to the Audi Sport stable.
The six event calendar for 2015 has been announced, with each race weekend consisting of two 30 minute races for the TT Cup cars. With a promised 24 car grid, made up of 18 ‘regulars’ and 6 rotating ‘guest’ drivers, the series should produce some close action on track. Assessment of which of the 165 applicants makes the grade to compete takes place this weekend.
Using a production derived 2.0 litre TSFI engine making 306 bhp, plus an additional 30 bhp ‘push-to-pass’ option, in a car weighing only 1,125 kgs should make the TT Cup cars quite lively on track. The six-speed S tronic gearbox is also lifted pretty much straight from the regular road-going TT model. Interestingly, the Sport TT Cup car is front-wheel drive only; no quattro action here.
Whoever of the driver applicants wins the 2015 Audi Sport TT Cup can look forward to a drive with the marque’s successful GT3 team, followed by possible promotion to the DTM or World Endurance Championship. Not a bad proposition if you have the requisite €99,000 (£78,000) entry money. For those of us less financially well-endowed, we can at least hope for close racing amongst a pack of rabid splittered and spoilered TT race cars.
